BARNSTABLE, Mass. (AP) — The trial of a Wareham man charged with killing a Cape Cod woman in 2005 has started.
Jury selection in the murder trial of John Rams Jr. started Monday in Barnstable Superior Court.
Rams' attorney also asked that information about his client's criminal past be excluded as evidence.
The Cape Cod Times (http://bit.ly/1gJ92Xe ) reports that Rams' attorney says the evidence is from a separate crime and would be prejudicial.
Rams was convicted of breaking into Shirley Reine's home in 2002 and stealing a safe from her bedroom. Authorities say he was hired by Reine's stepson, who sought paperwork about the family trash-hauling business. The stepson has never been charged.
Reine, of Falmouth, was found dead three years later and Rams is charged with of playing a role in her slaying.
