LOWELL, Mass. (AP) — A registered sex offender from Lowell is facing charges for allegedly raping a girl over several years starting when she was 6.
Philip St. Hilaire was held on $100,000 bail after pleading not guilty Wednesday to statutory rape of a child and indecent assault and battery of a child.
Prosecutors say the girl, now 13, disclosed the alleged abuse to a counselor last week.
The Sun (http://bit.ly/1kRhsxC ) reports that the 32-year-old St. Hilaire's lawyer argued for lower bail, saying the girl is upset over recent family issues, while his client is not a flight risk and the sole means of support for his children.
St. Hilaire is a Level 2 sex offender for a conviction when he was a juvenile. Level 2 offenders are considered a moderate risk to re-offend.
