WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — A Worcester man has been sentenced to up to 12 years in prison after he was found guilty of sexually assaulting a child.
Carlos Febus was sentenced Tuesday in Worcester Superior Court. The 55-year-old Febus was convicted earlier this month of child rape aggravated by age difference, indecent assault and battery on a child and intimidation of a witness.
Prosecutors say he assaulted the girl in August 2007 when she was 5 or 6 years old.
The Telegram & Gazette (http://bit.ly/19YHgXN ) reports that the prosecutor said the victim suffered nightmares "for years" as a result of the assault.
The defense sought a sentence of 10 years because the crimes occurred on a single day and did not represent "a continuing pattern of conduct."
