AMHERST, Mass. (AP) — Police at the University of Massachusetts have arrested a Vermont man they say was pilfering laptop computers from students at the Amherst campus' main library.
Police say 30-year-old Christopher Desjardin of Colchester, Vt., was arrested this week after a stakeout at the W.E.B DuBois Library.
He was identified as a suspect because he looked older than the students and was spotted in the building during previous thefts.
Deputy Police Chief Patrick Archbald tells The Daily Hampshire Gazette (http://bit.ly/10sH75n ) officers saw Desjardin appear to take an item and followed him to his vehicle. He was charged with larceny over $250, although police think he may be responsible for as many as a dozen thefts of unattended laptops.
Archbald warned students to protect valuables.
It was not clear if Desjardin had a lawyer.
