LYNN, Mass. (AP) — The driver of a tow truck that rammed into the rear of a car stopped at a red light in Lynn three years ago, killing a passenger in the other vehicle, has been convicted of vehicular homicide.
Derek Gallien was sentenced to one year in jail after being found guilty Monday in connection with the July 2010 crash.
Authorities say the 26-year-old Gallien struck a Honda Civic from behind, causing both vehicles to catch fire. A rear-seat passenger in the Honda, 23-year-old Edward Ma of Lynn, died. Gallien as well as the Honda's driver and front-seat passenger suffered minor injuries.
Authorities say Gallien was speeding and distracted by an onboard computer system.
The Daily Item (http://bit.ly/1b1ZSot ) reports that Gallien's lawyer says his client has suffered emotional distress since the crash.
