SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — The victim of Springfield's latest homicide "has a long history" with the department, police said Monday.
Christian Graves was the city's ninth homicide victim of the year, and the third in Forest Park in less than three weeks.
Graves, 19, was found suffering from gunshot wounds outside a home in the city's Forest Park neighborhood at about 11:15 p.m. Saturday. Police officers provided first aid until EMTs arrived and pronounced Graves dead.
There were no arrests but the entire area was canvassed and investigators are following leads, Sgt. John Delaney said in a statement. They also appealed to the public for information about the slaying.
Police did not disclose a possible motive.
A small shrine including candles had grown outside the home where Graves was found. Graves did not live at the home.
Fabian Pacheco, 30, was shot in what they believe was a drug-related slaying in his home in the same area on May 21. Angel Llorens, 22, was shot and killed the next day. Police have not indicated whether they believe the slayings are connected.
