SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — The city of Springfield is putting 25 tax-foreclosed properties on the auction block, including 21 houses.
The auction is scheduled for Wednesday evening at City Hall.
Mayor Domenic Sarno says the auction benefits the city by returning property to the tax rolls, protecting neighborhoods from urban blight and promoting home ownership.
Tina Quagliato, the deputy director of neighborhood stabilization, tells The Republican newspaper the auction can result in some good deals for house hunters. The properties are sold "free and clear" of all back taxes and liens.
This is city's third such auction this year.
There are also commercial properties available at the auction.
The city website has details of the properties for sale.
