BARNSTABLE, Mass. (AP) — A Sandwich teenager has pleaded not guilty to charges connected to a fatal car crash in Barnstable last year.
William Putnam IV was arraigned Thursday on charges of motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation, failure to stop or yield at a red light and failure to slow or stop at an intersection. The 17-year-old Putnam was released on his own recognizance and ordered not to drive.
Police say he ran a red light on Nov. 30 near the Route 6 overpass on the northbound side of Route 132 and struck another vehicle.
A passenger in the other car, 24-year-old Luke Marshall of Brewster, died.
Putnam's lawyer tells the Cape Cod Times (http://bit.ly/13FdZ3z ) that the crash was simply an accident and that no drugs or alcohol were involved.
