IRVINE, Calif. (AP) — Gillian Ryan won her second title in two days at the U.S. Open, winning the 400-meter freestyle Wednesday.
She touched first in 4 minutes, 7.87 seconds at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatic Center. Ryan won the 800 free on the meet's opening night.
Lindsey Vrooman finished second in the 400 free and Amber McDermott was third.
Scott Weltz, a 2012 Olympian, won the men's 200 breaststroke in a meet-record 2:10.36. Rob Holderness of Britain was second and Naoya Tomita of Japan was third.
In the men's 400 free, Jeremy Bagshaw of Canada won in 3:51.09. Nicholas Caldwell was second and Sam Lewis touched third.
Ryan Murphy rallied to win the men's 200 backstroke in 1:55.87. Arkady Vyatchanin of Russia was second and Andrew teDuits was third.
Sarah Denninghoff came from behind to win the women's 200 back in 2:09.14. Dominique Bouchard of Canada was second and Kylie Stewart was third.
Australia's Taylor McKeown led all the way to win the women's 200 breaststroke in 2:24.92. Emma Reaney was second and Haley Spencer finished third.
The meet continues through Saturday.
