WINCHENDON, Mass. (AP) — A man described by family and friends as an experienced boater and swimmer has died after jumping into a Winchendon lake to cool off.
Police say 63-year-old Vincent DiGeronimo was spotted by friends floating face down in Lake Monomonac at about 1 p.m. Monday. He had lived on the lake for 15 years.
Family members tell The Telegram & Gazette (http://bit.ly/16G52ls ) he had jumped in the water after boating with friends on a day when temperatures soared into the 90s. He was unresponsive by the time emergency workers arrived at the scene.
A sister says an autopsy is scheduled but she suspects her brother had a heart attack.
DiGeronimo's wife says he was the oldest of 12 children and loved Italian cooking and traveling to South America and the Caribbean.
