PITTSFIELD, Mass. (AP) — A Pittsfield man prosecutors say pushed a 73-year-old woman to the ground and threatened to stab her before stealing her purse has been held on $7,500 bail.
Nicholas McNeil was held after pleading not guilty at his arraignment Monday on charges connected to the alleged assault on Dec. 10 and a series of break-ins police say he is responsible for.
Police describe the alleged attack on the woman "violent" and left her with a sore elbow and leg.
The 34-year-old McNeil told police that he is a crack addict.
The Berkshire Eagle (http://bit.ly/19nx8d9 ) reports that his attorney asked that he be released on no bail given that he is a father of two and no flight risk. The defense attorney also questioned whether his client was read his Miranda rights.
