SAITAMA, Japan (AP) — Takamitsu Tomiyama scored late in the second half on Monday as Omiya Ardija beat defending champion Sanfrecce Hiroshima 2-1 to extend its unbeaten run in the J-League to a record 21 games.
Milivoje Novakovic gave Omiya a 1-0 lead in the 67th minute before Hisato Sato equalized for the visitors 10 minutes later. Tomiyama's header with six minutes remaining allowed first-place Omiya to win its seventh straight game and improve to 26 points, six points ahead of second-place Yokohama F Marinos which lost 2-1 to Kashiwa Reysol.
Kashima held the previous record of 17 games without defeat.
Elsewhere, Takuro Yajima and Yu Kobayashi scored second-half goals to lead Kawasaki Frontale to a 2-1 win over Shimizu S-Pulse while Tadanari Lee scored late in stoppage time as FC Tokyo earned a point in a 2-2 draw with Jubilo Iwata.
Ventforet Kofu and Albirex Niigata finished 1-1 while Vegalta Sendai beat struggling Nagoya Grampus 2-0.
Hotaru Yamaguchi scored a late equalizer to earn Cerezo Osaka a 2-2 draw with Urawa Reds.
Kashima Antlers edged Shonan Bellmare 1-0 courtesy of Davi's first-half strike while Oita Trinita remained the only team in the top flight yet to win after going down 4-2 to Sagan Tosu.
