North Adams woman dies after getting struck by SUVAP , Associated Press

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. (AP) — Police say a 53-year-old woman has been struck and killed by an SUV while walking across a North Adams street.
Karen Shields died Thursday at a Springfield hospital after getting struck late Wednesday night while crossing West Main Street near her home.
Sgt. James Burdick tells the North Adams Transcript (http://bit.ly/1aXvG0C ) she was not in a crosswalk when she was struck.
The SUV's driver, identified as 57-year-old Ronald Fredette, of Pownal, Vt., was taken to the hospital for chest pains.
Police say the death remains under investigation but Fredette is not likely to face charges.
