NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) — A New Bedford man charged with killing his girlfriend after a fight has pleaded not guilty at an arraignment held in his hospital room.
Pedro DeSousa entered his plea Monday as he was handcuffed to his bed at St. Luke's Hospital and was ordered held without bail.
The Standard-Times (http://bit.ly/14RCQLJ) reports that prosecutors say the 47-year-old DeSousa injured his back jumping from a second-floor window after cutting 33-year-old Rebecca Felteau's throat after a fight Sunday morning.
Police responding to a report of a domestic disturbance at about 6 a.m. found DeSousa locked in his bedroom. When police entered the room, they saw DeSousa jump from the window.
DeSousa was found down the street hiding under a vehicle.
His lawyer refused comment.
