LAWRENCE, Mass. (AP) — A New Hampshire man dubbed the "red car rapist" because of the vehicle he drove has been sentenced in Massachusetts to up to 25 years in prison for raping a woman.
Kenneth Poirier was sentenced Wednesday in Lawrence Superior Court for the rape in May 2010 of a Lawrence woman he ordered at gunpoint to get into his red Pontiac Grand Am, then drove to a wooded area of Methuen to assault.
The Eagle-Tribune (http://bit.ly/18ZA91T ) reports that the 42-year-old Poirier of Pelham, N.H., was convicted Tuesday of aggravated rape.
Prosecutors say DNA testing linked Poirier to five rapes.
Poirier's lawyer asked the judge for a five to seven-year prison sentence and said he will appeal. Poirier appeared unrepentant in court, saying the judge believed the victim and not him.
