EDGARTOWN, Mass. (AP) — The trial of a Martha's Vineyard man charged in the fatal stabbing of his wife's ex-husband is scheduled to get under way.
Ovando Eghill of Chilmark faces a murder charge in his trial scheduled to start Tuesday in Dukes Superior Court.
Prosecutors say the 32-year-old Eghill stabbed Michael Trusty of Edgartown in June 2011 during an argument. Eghill accused Trusty of verbally abusing his wife.
Authorities say Trusty grabbed a machete from his pickup truck and Eghill pulled a work knife from his waistband. Trusty raised the machete over his head and swung at Eghill, who blocked the blow with his arm and stabbed Trusty in the chest.
The Cape Cod Times (http://bit.ly/10p3Xgh ) reports that Trusty died days later at a Boston hospital.
Eghill's lawyer says his client acted in self-defense.
