SANDWICH, Mass. (AP) — Police say the man who died at a Sandwich beach this week was a retired U.S. Secret Service agent who had once served in the White House during the Lyndon Johnson administration.
Police identified the victim as 80-year-old Bernard Milton, who lived in town and Brookline.
Milton had been swimming at Sandwich Downs beach when he was spotted floating in the water Wednesday.
Officials tell the Cape Cod Times (http://bit.ly/1bvhITt ) they don't know yet whether Milton had a medical problem while swimming or if he drowned.
His online biography says he served in the Navy during the Korean War, was a U.S. Border Patrol officer, and a U.S. Treasury investigator before joining the Secret Service.
More recently he was a writer and publisher of e-books.
