SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — A jury is deliberating the case of a Springfield man charged with murder in connection with the shooting of a 16-year-old city boy.
The jury is expected to continue deliberations Wednesday in the Hampden Superior Court murder case against 30-year-old Kimani Anderson, charged with fatally shooting 16-year-old Tyrel Wheeler in July 2011.
Closing statements were Tuesday.
The Republican (http://bit.ly/1b4HEFw ) reports that the prosecutor said phone records as well as witness statements point to Anderson as the shooter. He also noted that Anderson's car keys were found in Wheeler's car.
But Anderson's attorney said his client and Wheeler were friends, and Anderson did not shoot the teenager. The attorney said police ignored other potential leads in the case that may have led to another suspect.
