HAVERHILL, Mass. (AP) — A 32-year-old voice coach from Haverhill has been charged with getting a 14-year-old female student pregnant.
Joshua Garsteck was ordered held on $50,000 cash bail after pleading not guilty to aggravated rape of a child Wednesday.
Prosecutors say an investigation began in May after police were notified by the state Department of Children and Families that the girl was several months pregnant.
The girl at first denied having a relationship with the teacher and said someone she met online got her pregnant. The Eagle-Tribune (http://bit.ly/16T6308 ) reports that authorities found thousands of text messages between the girl from Amesbury and Garsteck, many of them sexually explicit.
Garsteck's lawyer sought lower bail, saying his client had no criminal record and was not a flight risk.
