BOSTON (AP) — Democratic U.S. Senate hopeful Edward Markey has formed another joint fundraising committee as he seeks to defeat Republican Gabriel Gomez in the June 25 election.
Federal Election Commission records show Markey formed the Markey Grassroots Victory Fund on May 23 with the Massachusetts Democratic State Committee.
Markey had earlier created a separate joint fundraising committee with the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.
Joint fundraising committees can collect contributions, pay fundraising expenses and distribute net proceeds to two or more committees.
Gomez formed his own joint fundraising committee to help him narrow a fundraising gap with Markey.
The Gabriel Gomez Victory Fund 2013 was created on May 7 with the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
Markey headed into the general election with a fundraising edge, having raised nearly $4.8 million in contributions compared with $582,000 for Gomez.
