BOSTON (AP) — As revelers enjoyed Boston's St. Patrick's Day parade, police were on the lookout for alcohol.
The Boston Globe reports (http://bo.st/Wxd1Ab ) that Police Superintendent Daniel P. Linskey patrolled the parade route in South Boston ahead of the first procession on Sunday. He sniffed beverage cups for alcohol and pulled beer cans from backpacks.
Officers followed Linskey, writing citations for those caught drinking on the street.
By about 1 p.m., police arrested a few people on alcohol-related charges. Linskey says no arrests were for violent or particularly unusual events.
Linskey said that for the most part, the parade drew a responsible crowd.
