BOSTON (AP) — Workers checking a public housing development in Boston for bedbugs found more than they bargained for, discovering what officials say were illegally kept guns in one unit.
The Boston Globe reports that pest-control worker found two guns Saturday morning while inspecting under a mattress at the Cathedral development in the South End. Authorities say housing police then went there and found an unattended boy.
They looked under the mattress and found two guns. Then city police found a safe that contained three more guns and 300 rounds of ammunition.
Police say a notice of the pest inspection date was on the bedroom mirror.
The parents were charged with weapons offenses including unlawful possession of a firearm. The boy was taken to his grandmother's home.
