Cameroon's Etone Wins Women's Triple JumpAP , Associated Press

ATHENS, Greece (AP) _ Francoise Mbango Etone of Cameroon won the Olympic triple jump Monday with a leap of 50 feet, 2 1/2 inches (15.30 meters), an African record and 10 inches (0.25 meters) longer than her previous best. Hrysopiyi Devetzi of Greece won the silver with a best effort of 50- 1/2 (15.25). The bronze went to favorite Tatyana Lebedeva of Russia. The 2000 Olympic silver medalist's best jump was 49-8 1/4 (15.14). She set the indoor record at the world championships this year and won the 2001 outdoor world title. After fouling on her first attempt, Mbango Etone went 50-2 1/2 on her second, then matched that distance on her final leap.
