LILBURN, GA. LILBURN, Ga. (AP) _ A man battered down a bathroom door and killed his father with an ax Friday, then attacked his mother in a bedroom, police said. Authorities said he may have been under pressure from his parents about grades.
Charles Ross Mize Jr., 24, was being held at the Gwinnett County jail on charges of murder and aggravated assault.
His father, a 43-year-old football coach at Parkview High School in this Atlanta suburb, was found dead of multiple wounds in an upstairs bathroom of his home. Judy Mize, 44, was in fair condition at a hospital after surgery for ax and knife wounds.
''He attacked the father first and his dad fled to the bathroom and locked himself in,'' said Gwinnett County police spokesman Larry Walton. ''He axed down the door and killed his father, then attacked his mother.''
Walton said a disagreement over the son's college credits might have led to the attack. He was a student at Georgia State University.
''There had been some pressure in the past regarding grades and activities in school,'' Walton said.
The younger Mize called 911 hours after the early morning attack, police said.
A neighbor, Susan Hill, said the son, known as Chip, taught karate and had a second-degree black belt. Other neighbors said he was quiet and polite.
