UNDATED Undated (AP) _ The line for Hands Across America covers 4,124 miles, and organizers said 5.4 million people would be needed to fill it Sunday.
The proposed human chain goes through 16 states and the District of Columbia. It crosses 1,400 miles of desert, three mountain ranges and 10 rivers. It links about 500 cities and towns.
Here is a list of the states involved, their populations, the number of miles in the Hands Across America line, the number of people needed to fill the line, and some major cities and towns on the route.
The list covers the route from west to east, and lists Illinois, Maryland and Pennsylvania twice because the line leaves and re-enters those states. CALIFORNIA
